AMREF MONITORING AND EVLUATION JOBS IN NAIROBI AND MAKUENI,KENYA

AMREF Kenya is looking for well organised, highly motivated and results oriented
individuals to join a dynamic team and help bring lasting health change in Africa
under the Child and Reproductive Health Programme with funding from Comic Relief
and DANIDA.

The projects will be implemented in Makueni County and Samburu, Turkana, Marsabit,
Isiolo and Wajir Counties) respectively.

These projects will focus on maternal, newborn and child health interventions
working in collaboration with Ministries of Health.

Position: Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

(Two Positions)

Reference Number: KCO/HR/002/2012

AMREF is seeking to fill two positions of M&E officer. The position under the
DANIDA funded programme is based in Nairobi, while that funded under Comic Relief
is based in Makueni. Both report to the Project Manager.

Purpose of the Job

To provide M&E technical expertise and support project activities and implementation
of the project strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  •     Participate in strengthening existing M&E systems in the project, programme and
    AMREF Kenya Country Office levels
  •     Take lead in data capturing and reporting using monitoring tools to track project indicators
  •     Provide technical input in the review of reports and participate in field assessments
  •     Take lead in program surveys, organizing and facilitating quarterly, semi-annual and
    annual project review meetings with program staff and partners and giving feedback on M&E activities
  •     Support project implementation team to document and disseminate lessons learnt and best practices
  •     Ensure program integration and growth by participating in meetings and conference Participate in operations research and documentation.

Qualifications and Competencies

The ideal candidate should have a first degree in Statistics, Social Sciences or
its equivalent.

Professional training in M&E and at least four years relevant work experience.

Experience in operations research will be an added advantage.

Must have hands on experience in statistical analysis packages – STATA; SPSS, Epi info.

Excellent quantitative and qualitative skills. Must be a team player, good communicator
and ability to work under minimum supervision.

PURPOSE OF JOB :- To ensure the

Assistant Programme Accountant
Reporting to the Programme
Accountant and based in Nairobi

PURPOSE OF JOB :-
The position will be responsible for
providing general accounting support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:-
* Assisting in financial management
and cash flow planning .
* Supporting the various projects in
budget preparation, implementation
and monitoring .
* Accurate coding of payment
vouchers and files for data processing
and/or payment.
* Reconciling control and balance
sheet accounts and clearing all
reconciling items periodically.
* Updating data in the SUN
Accounting System .
* Preparation of financial reports to
donors
* Monthly reconciliation of suppliers ’
statements against ledger balance and
liaising with the respective suppliers in
a bid to clear any reconciling items .
* Monthly preparation of internal
recharges/recoveries .

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:-
* The candidate should have a
minimum of a Bachelors Degree in
Commerce (Accounting/ Finance
Option) with at least CPA Part II or its
equivalent.
* Two ( 2) years work experience in a
large and busy NGO.
* In addition , the candidates must
have sound ICT knowledge especially
in the MS Office Suite .
* Experience in SUN accounting
system will be an added advantage.
* Furthermore, he/ she must have a
high level of confidentiality , honesty ,
integrity and the ability to work under
minimal supervision.

team playing ability are also essential

Position: National Wash Alliance
Coordinator

The Kenya WASH Alliance (KWA) is
forum set up by NGOs dealing with
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
(WASH) issues for purposes of
collaboration, sharing of experiences
and advocacy .
KWA in partnership with the Dutch
WASH Alliance (DWA ) are initiating a
five year WASH Programme in
Kajiado County . This programme is
funded by the Ministry of Foreign
Services (MFS) under its MFS 11
Programme of the Netherlands
Government.

The objective of the programme is to
reduce poverty through improved
environmental health and economic
conditions by empowering people ,
and creating an enabling
environment aiming at achieving
increased sustainable access to and
use of safe water and sanitation
services and improved hygiene
practices for the local community
particularly women and marginalised
groups.

For effective coordination of
activities, the KWA will establish a
WASH Secretariat . The secretariat will
be governed by a National Steering
Committee comprising of six
implementing partners .
KWA is looking for a well organised,

oriented individual to join the WASH
teams and coordinate the delivery of
programme objectives, in the
position of Alliance Coordinator . The
position reports to the National
Steering Committee and is based in
Nairobi .

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Liaison with other WASH actors to

WASH programming in Kenya.

Background
The purpose of the Capacity Kenya
Associate Award is to strengthen
Human Resources for Health (HRH)
systems of the public, faith-based and
private health sectors to ensure
improved delivery of primary health
care (PHC) to improve health
outcomes for the people of Kenya.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES.
Under overall guidance of the Training
Program/Systems Managers/Asst
Director - Community Health Systems
and HRH Development, the Program
Assistant will offer both program and
logistical support to ensure the
smooth implementation of planned
Project’s activities.

She will be expected to develop a
comprehensive technical
understandingof the work plans and
budgets so as to be able to provide
support in development and
monitoring of related work plans and
budgets.

She will keep proper physical and
electronic documentation of Project’s
proposals, work plans and budget,
cost share reports including
proceedings and minutes of meetings
as may be required from time to time.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•Provides support in maintaining a
reliable and accurate budget
monitoring system to ensure specific
budget is spent in line with approved
activities and budget limits with no risk of budget overruns and
under spending.
•Alerts the relevant program point
persons on any under/over spending
on a monthly basis.
•In consultations with the Program
Logistics Assistant, takes lead in
providing timely and accurate logistical
support to activities in relation to:
Organizing activities venues.
•Computing participants’ perdiem and other allowances.
•Organizing for materials and
equipment required for each activities.
•Disbursing allowances to the
participants.
•Takes minutes and document all
proceedings of project planning
meetings and any other program-
related meeting as requested from
time to time.
•In consultation with program teams,
work closely with the M&E,
Communications and Knowledge
management unit to ensure
production, printing and publication
of necessary program documents and tools.
•Liaises with the various partners and
stakeholders to ensure that activities
take place as planned.
•Establishes and maintains an easily
accessible and user friendly document
retrieval system for the Project’s
materials that includes but not limited
to: PowerPoint slides, project
documents, trip reports, consultants’
letters of appointments and evaluation
forms, minutes of meetings, other
training materials used by the various
facilitators in activities.
•Under guidance from the Training
Program/Systems Managers/Asst
Director - Community Health Systems
and HRH Development and other
program teams, provides support in
compiling the required
Project’s quarterly projections, cost
share reports including obtaining the
relevant supporting documents.
•Establishes and maintains a database
of the project participating sites and
collaborating agencies including
donors (records to be kept both in
physical and electronic files)
•Receives and reviews office
correspondences and responds to
enquiries as necessary.
•Jointly with the Training Program/
Systems Managers/Asst Director -
Community Health Systems and HRH
Development participates on own
annual performance appraisal,
identifies own learning needs
and personal career growth.
•Perform any other responsibilities

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS
•Bachelor’s degree in social sciences
and relevant experience in similar
assignments.
