Background:
VSF Germany is an international Non-Governmental Organization, providing humanitarian aid and
development assistance to pastoralists and vulnerable communities in areas where livestock is of importance. In the r
egion, VSF Germany implements activities in Southern Sudan, Northern Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia. With support in animal health, agriculture, marketing, food safety but also with developing the capacity of communities and governmental institutions or initiating peace and conflict resolution we work towards food security and strengthened livelihoods of pastoralist communities.
We seek to recruit a qualified and well experienced Project Officer - Natural Resource Management to support the implementation of RAPID II Project in Marsabit, Northern Kenya, with frequent visits to other locations within the project area. This position is field based. The incumbent will work in collaboration with the Project Manager, Community Stakeholders & Partner organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
• The incumbent will be responsible for implementing the natural resource management and disaster risk reduction related activities.
• Regularly monitor activities and report progress to the Senior Programs Officer.
• He/She will be required to identify & provide training for the community user groups including rangeland user groups, peace committees among other community institutions dealing with natural resource management and disaster risk reduction interventions.
• Participate in project coordination meetings representing VSF Germany at district and county level forums as required.
• Respond to cross cutting issues affecting the community in cooperation with specific expert agencies.
• Steer the development and presentation of community drought preparedness plans with relevant groups i.e. Peace Committees, Water User Committees and Resource Planning Committees
among other laid structures.
Qualifications, Experience, Attributes & Skills required
• University Degree in Natural Resource Management or Environmental Science from accredited university.
• Advance Diploma in Disaster Management will be an added advantage.
• A minimum of 2-3 years working in Livelihoods programming and Project support.
• Knowledge and experience of working with pastoral communities.
• Excellent computer knowledge and report writing skills.
• Knowledge of current policy on Natural resource and environment management.
• Knowledge of Donor Funds Management and Reporting.
• Working knowledge of ECHO rules & regulations shall be an advantage.

- Will conduct community mobilization and awareness raising campaigns during implementation of the project in Turkana West District
- Support the DRR and Livelihood Officers in community information documentations on lessons learned in each intervention for information sharing.
- Conduct follow-up meetings with all the targeted groups in the project which include VSLA, LMA, CAHWs, business associations and DRR committees.
- Interact on a regular basis with targeted beneficiaries with the aim of introducing and explaining each projects’ objectives, mobilize community participation and ensure it conforms to work schedules, and provide mentorship for community activities in regard to projects being implemented · Carry out community/project beneficiaries training with a view to creating/raising awareness and building their capacity to run implemented projects.
- Develop and implement proactive and community participatory responses to droughts and other disasters for livelihood recovery.
- Works closely with local partner APAD and other collaborators that include NDMA drought monitors in gathering early warning information and give regular updates to the project team, and feedback to the targeted beneficiaries.
- Initiate and create sustainable strategic linkages aimed at enabling the local communities to access funding for from other instruments targeting DRR and livestock based livelihoods.
- Ensure that the communities are continuously involved and kept up-to-date with project developments.
Minimum Requirements
- Advanced diploma or diploma in rural community development, animal science, social work/community development, and livelihood.
- At least three years experience in community mobilization and development in pastoral livelihood systems in ASALs.
- Experience and understanding of NGO work experience
- Experience in the use of participatory methodologies such PRA, FGD, ABCD in drought responses and early recovery
- Experience in community training, advocacy for change and ability to inspire community economic empowerment.
- Computer literate
- Team player
- Fluency in Nga’turkana language a must

Key Requirements:

Major Duties & Responsibilities:
* Develop an in-depth understanding of the study design and goals.

AWEPA has identified a need for a
Consultant to act as a liaison
between the Transitional Federal
Parliament of Somalia (“ TFP ”) and
AWEPA for its project of support.
The main duty of the Consultant is
to keep track of all agreed services to
be provided to the TFP through the
project, and ensure that such
services are delivered in a timely
manner.
Although this contract position is to
be based in Somalia, until the
political and security situation allows,
the Liaison officer will be temporarily
based in Nairobi Kenya pending an
eventual move to Somalia in the
event that conditions allow for such
a move to be made.
In the interim frequent travel will be
required between Nairobi and
South-Central Somalia provided
always that the security situation
allows for such travel to take place .

PROGRAMS COORDINATOR . Job Ref :

This position reports to the Chief
Executive Officer and is responsible
for coordinating , monitoring and
implementing the Organization ’s
programs and projects against set
standards and targets.
The job focus is based on ensuring
the use of appropriate project
management tools to achieve desired
results and impact in all programs and
activities undertaken .
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Degree in Management/ Planning,
Business Administration , Economics
or a related field;
Six ( 6 ) years experience , three ( 3) of
which must be at a senior level in
Strategic or Corporate Planning in a
national or regional organization ;
Experience in working with financial
systems and in consolidation of
reports , producing strategy or
program plans , managing budgets
and working within a results -based
project framework;
Experience in managing performance
improvement and change
management programs across an
organization.
KEY SKILLS
The Applicant should have strong
communication and problem solving
skills, team building and leadership
skills; be a strategic thinker ; have
strong planning and implementation
skills; strong analytical ability; have a
creative and open mind; timeliness
and attention to detail ; ability to
analyze and synthesize bulky
information.
PROJECT MANAGER - ENVIRONMENT .

This position reports to the Director
Environment and is responsible for
planning, executing, and finalizing
projects according to strict deadlines
and within budget. This includes
coordinating the efforts of team
members and third -party contractors
or consultants in order to deliver
projects according to plan .
In addition , oversee quality control
throughout the project life cycle ,
create, execute and revise project
work plans as appropriate to meet
changing needs and requirements
whilst effectively enforcing project
standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Degree in Environmental Sciences ;
A Postgraduate qualification in Project
Management;
Five (5 ) years relevant experience
three (3 ) of which must be in Project
Management;
Experience in developing donor
funded projects and proposals
KEY SKILLS
The Applicant should have
demonstrated experience in use of
project management software ; strong
analytical ability and problem solving
capabilities as well as strong
interpersonal skills .
COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER.

This position reports to the Director,
Communications, Awards and
Advocacy and is responsible for
designing and implementing
communication and publicity initiatives
directed at various internal and
external stakeholder audiences in line
with established policies and practices .
In addition he or she is responsible
for documentation , preservation and
dissemination of all data , information
and material related to all activities of
the Organization .
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Masters Degree in Communications;
A professional qualification in PR,
Corporate Communications or other
related field
Five (5 ) years experience gained
specializing in corporate
communications.
Prior experience in organizing and
executing of awards event will be an
added advantage .
KEY SKILLS
The Applicant should have strong
communication, analytical and
interpersonal skills ; good Public
Relations (PR ); proficiency in
Computer Applications ; proficiency in
video shooting and editing of the
organizations functions, activities and
others of relevance to the
organization and publics ; Ability to
maintain professional integrity; ability
to research and evaluate results of a
Public Relations ( PR) campaign/
programme.
PROJECTS OFFICER - ENVIRONMENT.

This position reports to the Project
Manager — Environment and is
responsible for research and
developing in-depth knowledge of
assigned program areas including
current issues with a clear
understanding of how they fit into the
organizations interests .
In addition update and maintain
resource files for assigned program
areas , development of project
proposals, as well as implementation
of program activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in Environmental Studies or
related field;
Higher Diploma with 2 years
experience or; Diploma with 3 years
experience
Comprehensive knowledge of project
cycles gained at a practical level.
KEY SKILLS
The Applicant should have proven
ability to organize and conduct multi -
stakeholder meetings , conduct needs
analysis, experience in training;
excellent presentation skills and
report compilation skills; computer
literacy in Microsoft Office; be a team
player; have personal initiative and be
a quick learner .
