News Editor
Job Ref: HR-NE-09-2012
2 Positions
Reporting to General Manager-Radio their roles will entail optimizing on internal synergy with the other news platforms and being on top of news and current affairs to deliver compelling and captivating news bulletins.
We invite applications from qualified professionals preferably working in a broadcasting setting, with proven track records and attributes that will enable them excel in a complex and highly competitive multi-media environment.
Overall responsibility will be to formulate and coordinate the news strategy for the individual FM stations and put in place news operational systems.
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate assignments for reporters as well as set the news agenda for the stations;
- Oversee quality control of news bulletins by ensuring that news and features meet expected professional standards; and are in line with Nation Media Group’s editorial objectives;
- Set key performance objectives for reporters and news presenters;
- Determine the news running order in consultation with the news team;
- Liaise with regional contributors/correspondents and internal contacts to achieve a wider coverage of news stories;
- Planning of big stories, and setting a system for breaking news;
- Coaching and mentoring team members on areas for personal growth.
Skills, knowledge and experience requirement:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism;
- At least 5 years’ experience with a proven track record of scripting and editing in a busy newsroom;
- Understanding of the dynamics and complexity of broadcasting media;
- People management skills.
zuqka.com Editor
Job Ref: HR-ZE-09-2012
The successful candidate will report to the Managing Editor – Nation Digital Division.
Key responsibilities:
- Checking and correcting editorial copy for facts, accuracy, taste, house-style, language use, clarity and balance to conform to NMG Editorial Policy;
- Producing non-linear stories;
- Ensuring NMG content is properly projected on digital platforms, including SEO;
- Ensuring timely publishing to digital platforms;
- Developing and strengthening the NMG digital platforms as a 24/7 medium for breaking news;
- Generating interesting and creative multimedia content in keeping with changing news and subject realities;
- Timely generation of creative youth-friendly content.
Skills, knowledge and experience requirement:
- University degree;
- Diploma in Journalism;
- Minimum of 3 to 4 years working experience preferably as a Sub Editor;
- Good knowledge of African current affairs and issues of youth interest;
- Multimedia editing and production skills.
Online Editor - Broadcasting
Job Ref: HR-ON-09-2012
The successful candidate will report to the Managing Editor – Broadcasting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Multimedia storytelling across platforms;
- Checking and correcting editorial products for facts, accuracy, taste, house- style, language use, clarity and balance to conform to NMG Editorial Policy;
- Ensure NMG content is properly projected on digital platforms, including SEO;
- Ensuring timely publishing to digital platforms;
- Social media engagement;
- Converged story-telling.
Skills, knowledge and experience requirement:
- University degree in journalism or a related field;
- Good knowledge of African current affairs and strong news awareness;
- Skilled in capturing and editing video and audio for digital audiences.
